Something For The Cold

[3min Read]
We are currently  being blessed with more cold and wet days than the hot or dry ones in this part of the world. As such, i decided to share this amazing recipe perfect for the cold days - Yam Peppersoup

It is a spicy South South delicacy and perfect for the cold because it leaves you feeling refreshed and warm so much that it is considered by many as a remedy for cold or flu.

Another good side to this dish is that it is one of the easiest Nigerian Yam recipes to make. Apart from all that, the most important feature of this dish is it's delicious taste. ๐Ÿ˜‹

It can be prepared with goat meat, chicken, beef, catfish or even smoked fish depending on individual choice. In this recipe, we'll be combining goat meat and catfish.

 INGREDIENTS

➤ ½ tuber of yam, diced.➤ Goat meat, cut into chunks➤ 1 medium sized catfish, washed and cut into pieces (optional)➤ 2 tbsp of ground crayfish (optional)  ➤ 1 big onion, chopped➤ Scent leaves, as desired.➤ Uziza leaves (optional)➤ Peppersoup spice (as desired)➤ Ground pepper (as desired)➤ Seasoning cubes➤ Salt to taste

PREPARATION

Step 1 ➤  Put your goat meat into a large pot, season to taste. Add the peppersoup spice, pepper, crayfish and uziza leaves. Add a cup of water.

Step 2 ➤ Leave to boil for 10 minutes. Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.

Step 3 ➤ Add 2 more cups of water to the boiling meat. Add the chunks of yam and diced onions. Cook for  30 minutes on medium heat.

Step 4 ➤ Add the catfish and shake the pot gently to get the seasoning mixed. Do not stir so as not to break the fish. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Pour in the sliced scent leaves.

Step 5 ➤ Let it simmer for some 10 minutes. Check if the yam is soft by inserting a fork into a piece of yam.
