Chapter Three:
Chris shut the door almost as quickly as he opened it. They both heard the
front door burst open, and they were in the kitchen. Bullets flew everywhere,
ricocheting all over the place.
"Uhm ... open the drawers", Chris stammered, while crouching.
"We're in a freaking kitchen, be damn specific!", Jake yelled.
"The one near the dish washer, I keep two tranq guns there".
"Why the hell do you keep guns where you cook", Jake said, while
handing him one.
"Just shut up and let's go"
They had to think and act fast. No one likes to die on a date night. They
found their way out of the kitchen, and crept to the living room. Two thugs
stood there looking around. One was coming their way.
"I aim for this one, you aim for the vulture looking freak"
"They both look ugly"
"Just do it", Chris said.
Chris aimed at the neck of his guy and shot him, sending him down to sleep
immediately.
The other one, being alerted, yelled for back up, but Jake knocked him out
too.
"Remind me why we're not using real guns again?", Jake asked.
"Because I don't want to get blood on my walls, paint jobs are
expensive these days"
"You're sick, let's go through the basement, we can burst outta
here"
They walked side by side, aiming at anything they saw. They made it to the
basement, and burst through to the backyard. Chris had an open roof Bugatti
Veyron waiting for them.
Coming from a rich background had its advantages.
"Hey! ...I found them!", A voice yelled.
Jake shot on instinct, and the dart landed on the thug's arm, sending him
to snoozeville.
"Let's get outta here!", Chris yelled.
They bolted to the car amidst bullets coming from different angles of the
house. Chris slid across the bonnet, and jumped into the drivers seat. Jake got
in the car.
"Step on it Mehn!", Jake yelled.
Chris fumbled with the keys, put it in the ignition and the engine roared
to life. They sped off in a quick frenzy.
Jake looked back through the open roof and saw bikes on their tails. The
gang was in hot pursuit.
"Don't these guys ever quit?", cried Jake.
"We're gonna have to lose them, their ruining my baby"
Chris drove like a mad man through the streets, dodging cars left, right
and center. The thugs aimed their side mirrors, and took them out with their
guns. Now they couldn't see unless someone looked back.
"Oh common!"
"That's it! Now it's personal" Chris said angry. Jake pointed out
that there were six bikers. He drove through the streets and at the last second
made a quick drift sending two bikers on their tail into a coffee shop.
"That's what you get for ruining my car!"
Bullets interrupted the little victory. But Chris knew the city like the
back of his hand, and he cut through corners at the last second confusing the
gang. Jake looked back and saw there were only two left firing at them.
"We're gonna do something crazy Jake, how good is your aim"
"As good as your cooking, we're gonna die!"
"Shut up, In ten seconds I'm gonna hit the brakes, i want you to take
the tranq guns and aim it at these two apes as they zoom past us, can you do
that?"
"It's been nice knowing you, hombre" Jake said with tears in his
eyes.
"Quit whining"
The bikers were gaining on them. They were almost overtaking them.
"Seven seconds", Jake counted.
Chris sped up to gain more distance, while Jake took the guns and muttered
prayers.
"Three, Two, One... NOW!!"
Chris hit the breaks, and Jake stood - simultaneously spreading his arms
armed with tranq guns on each side. The bikers sped forward. Jake fired
catching both at the neck and they fell off their bikes.
"Boom shakalaka!", Jake shouted, raising his hands in victory.
"We're going to my brother's place. We can't stay at any of our
houses, they will find us", Chris said, making a U-turn that almost
sent Jake flying out of the car.
***************************************
"...You mean all that happened this night?", Peter said, wiping
his eyes and yawning.
Peter was Chris' older brother. They had never really gotten along after
they each got their own share of the inheritance. Their parents were still
alive. But there was plenty of money to go around.
"Yeah, and worst of all, we missed our date with Jasmine and
Susan!", Jake said.
Chris slapped him so hard he stumbled over. Peter looked on. He was used to
their stupidity each time he visited. He still loved Chris even though he
didn't show it.
"Don't you think my life will be in danger if you guys stay
here?", Pete asked, concerned.
"Common Mehn help a brother out. .. literally", Chris said.
"Alright you two can stay in the guest room, be sure to find a place
before long. I hate a full house"
"This is a mansion, and we're just three in here", Jake said. Peter walked back to his room, and went
straight to bed.
The boys went to the station to explain to the D.A. what happened. Officer
Raymond anxiously met them and asked what happened last night.
"How did you know something happened last night? Only the D.A. knows
about this", Jake said suspiciously.
" I was talking about the date" Raymond said defensively. They
shrugged and apologized, Jake was still skeptical, and looked on as Raymond
went back to his duties.
They met the girls who gave them slaps in turn, each one giving her man.
They explained, but the story looked too fake. Especially the part of Jake
taking out the bikers.
"Let's go back to your brother's, I'm kinda still shaken", Jake
said.
“Pfft, Free loader", Chris replied, eyeing him.
******************************************
"Hey Peter we're back, what's for lunch", Chris yelled, as they
stepped in. He flung his keys and collapsed on the couch. Strangely the home
theater was on, and on the highest. So was the TV.
Jake stood frozen looking at the dining room.
"What are you looking at?", Chris asked, standing up. He stood
transfixed at what he saw.
His brother was tied to a chair with blood on his face. Chris ran and
checked for a pulse. Peter was dead.
Tears rolled down his face as he looked at the neck of his brother.
"His... his neck is broken", he stuttered out.
Jake found a note lying on the table.
"THE PRETTY LADIES ARE NEXT", the note read. Chris was screaming
and cursing. His huge frame hovering over the whole place. Jake heard
something.
"Do you hear that?"
"Just shut up", Chris said angrily.
Jake walked and shut the home theater and the power down, so everywhere
would be quiet. The beeping noise became louder. Jake looked under the table. A
bomb stared back at him - showing a large, red lettered timer with thirty
seconds.
"Chris!! We gotta move now!!", Jake shouted.
"He warned me they'd come for him", Chris said, sobbing.
"Twenty seconds Mehn!!"
Jake dragged him out, Chris was resisting.
"Let's go Chris!! Common!", Jake yelled.
He carried him out of the house, they ran out trying to reach a safe
distance.
The bomb exploded.
