[4min Read]

{We are finally on the final episode of Defeated Not. Yaaaaay. Thank you for sticking with Fona to the end of her journey. We really will like to know what you think.

Alright, let's get right into it.}

‘You see, about 18 months ago, Segun fell really ill and we took him to the hospital. Our doctor, I’m sure you know him he has been here few times, diagnosed him with leukemia.’

‘What is leukemia?’

‘It is the cancer of the blood.’

‘Oh.'

DEFEATED NOT - Episode 4

[4 min read]

My new mother and I got home around 7pm. I met my two new brothers and I honestly did not know what to do, because I had never really been around boys, it was difficult to know what to say or do, but I felt certain they would be better than the girls back at the house-that was what the orphanage was called. So I smiled and said good evening. I could not tell if they were happy or angry so I stopped smiling and bowed my head.

Oh! Dear Pain 3

[4 Minutes Read]

Chris spotted a table close to the food counter where he could get a better view of Mona Lisa.

Soon she came to take their orders, he barely heard what she asked. Philip kicked his foot under the table, bringing him back from oblivion.

He flashed his teeth at her as her cheeks turned pink, no doubt he had something on her.

"What would you like Sir"?

She was directing her question to Philip, ignoring Chris who regardless kept smiling.
She could ignore him all she wanted but he knew she was into him too.

DEFEATED NOT - EPISODE 2

[3 min read]

I knew Mrs. Hadiza was lying when she told us months before about the economy’s recession in the country, and how it was difficult for most families to get by, and that was why the ration of food served to us reduced virtually by half and we ate more of egg - how I hated boiled egg. I hoped I would not have to eat boiled egg anymore when I got to my new home anyways.

My suspicions were however confirmed when Miss. Bola called me aside one day after lunch. I did not know what to feel actually because whenever anyone was called aside after lunch it meant the person had done a bad thing and must read a chapter of the Bible while writing down whatever she learns from the chapter and not only that, but gets to discuss during the night devotion whatever it was she learnt, so there was no escaping it. I really did not like reading the bible, because it was complex to understand.

DEFEATED NOT - Episode 1

[3 min read]

By TOSINMILE OLA-AMUDA

Waiting was worse than I expected. I had expected it to be sooner and was really excited that I would be out of here by now. I threw out hopes of ever getting a family of my own ages ago and I was utterly shocked and anxious when Miss Bola told me a week before that a family wanted to adopt a girl and having seen the necessary documents especially my medical history, they thought me the best choice. I asked Miss Bola so many questions that she had to send me to the room to keep from questioning her further.

The best choice? What a nice way to frame adoption. I heard other girls talk about how impossible it was to get adopted in Nigeria because of the cultural beliefs. I thought it cruel that they made us watch movies of how children in other parts of the world living in orphanages get their happy endings usually by getting adopted into a nice family. But then, it was as if I was in a movie of my own.

DISAPPOINTMENT AT “THE CRAVE” PARTY

The crave is a party organized by Biggie official and special guests: DJ Tefla and DJ Izzy. It took place at Alfa balgore hall on 27th January 2018 from 4pm-11pm.

It was the first Abuad party of the year and there was a lot of hype about it on instagram and most especially within the school premises. The ticket was 500 naira which is pretty cheap for a party; this attracted a lot of audience and the ticket was sold out quickly. Here are some posts on Instagram to hype people about the party

15 things when you have a younger brother.

Do you have a younger brother or two hanging around the house or country somewhere? Well, some of us at TRJ do too, and we want to touch back at all those things that make us love them (well, most of the time). Here we go...

1. He will always be touching your things.
Nothing is safe. No toy. No game. No clothes. No phone.

2.  He will get you in trouble so many times with your parents, you'll stop involving him in anything you're doing for a while - as punishment

October Rush (Part One - Him)

Him:

I had just come back to this academic prison yard yesterday. I would have loved to resume late, but then I would miss out on all the fresh meat in the school.

I couldn't trust the other boys in school to maintain themselves for long. It was hunting season - it was every lion for himself.

October Rush (Part One - Her)

DAY ONE:

Her:

It was the second day of resumption of the old students. They came like in an army triumphant.
Making noise everywhere

I should have known the first day he walked up to me that he was trouble. He came looking all fly, saying hi with a face like this:

Because it's life - Week 1

The best of Twitter, Instagram and general society for this week. All at your fingertips, only here on the TRJ.

1. This thing that happened to everyone that saw this photo...
Honestly though...

Unfinished

Toby watched as her mother continued praying.

It was frustrating to see that the situation in the family was something she couldn't compromise. Her sister was still the same after 12 years, she was still wearing a diaper, and talking like a baby - she couldn't do anything for herself, which hurt Toby deeply. She wondered when it would all end. She hoped it would change completely. Time and time again, she had hid her little sister away any time a visitor came by. It was a normal tradition in the house, as it was uncomfortable when funny questions started coming from people, and irritating stares were given. Hiding her sister was annoying and frustrating.

The Gift of Goodbye

By Ebi Ashidi

Saying goodbye might be painful - and in most cases it is, but it can also be the best Gift you give to yourself.

Being in a relationship that isn’t fruitful, and only painful, or in a relationship that brings more pain than joy, such relationships have to be let go.

STEP 1: EVALUATE
Before you can say goodbye, you need to be able to tell what relationships deserve your gift. We all have relationships. I mean, we were created for relationships.

Don't We All?

I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. I had just come from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to get out of work. Coming my way from across the parking lot was what society would consider a bum. From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times that you just don't want to be bothered. This was one of those "don't want to be bothered times."

"I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought.

The Case - Chapter Three

Chapter Three:

Chris shut the door almost as quickly as he opened it. They both heard the front door burst open, and they were in the kitchen. Bullets flew everywhere, ricocheting all over the place.

"Uhm ... open the drawers", Chris stammered, while crouching.

"We're in a freaking kitchen, be damn specific!", Jake yelled.
"The one near the dish washer, I keep two tranq guns there".
"Why the hell do you keep guns where you cook", Jake said, while handing him one.
"Just shut up and let's go"

Sand and Stone

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: “TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.”
