The Man Lied

[3min read]
A man lied? Shocking!!!

It is the first day of my new job, my first occupation. It’s also Monday. I’d stayed up late last night carefully picking what I would wear, I had to make a good impression. After I'd ironed my chiffon shirt and my favourite black pencil skirt, it was time to select a shoe.

Nigeria

[3min Read]

By Jesulayomi Oyelami

Once upon a time, there was a country, nameless and void of development, built on the heritage of its people but left in the hands of explorers to do as they pleased. Over time, it became "eye candy", inviting to the 'colonial masters', who gifted her slavery in the form of 'development'. Amazed by this gift, she took it, and believed in it, until it dawned on her that she‘s worth far more than the value they had offered.

Now, in this day and time, there is a country, broken free from colonial shackles - but bound by the slavery she bought herself, many years ago.

Unpopular Opinion - The Rule of Laughter

[4min Read]

Today I opened up my WhatsApp status and saw the same thing on almost 20 different statuses. Color blocking combinations by 100L students of ABUAD.

For those not aware - in my university, students are mandated to wear specific colors that represent their colleges. Green for engineering, White & Black for Law, Blue for social management sciences etc etc.

Now, you have to realize. Not all individuals are blessed with understanding on fashion, color matching and the art of LOOKING GOOD. Take me for example. I wore a school uniform for 6 years of my life, and didn't really have to worry about cool outfits since I didn't go anywhere outside school, church and a few occasions my parents would make me attend.

Gender Inclusion: An oversight of some Feminists

[4 min read]

Image result for Gender Equality

IDOWU MARY

A while back, I wrote an article on women and the power that lies within us; this time, I'm going deep in. I will be writing on what many ‘feminists’ do not always seem to know about 'feminism'.

Chimamanda Adichie wrote a book titled, ’we should all be feminists’, and from it, I agree that indeed we should all be. Everyone, both males and females should be feminists. Every girl who is a teenager and upwards is a feminist to say a few, but often times, it seems they do not understand what it really means. Females always want "gender inclusion", ie that they want to be included in every activity the male gender is included in; given the same opportunities the male gender is given; basically treated the same way a guy should be treated, but often times, we girls get selfish. Yes, selfish.

Time

MARY IDOWU

Time; Tempus in Latin. Time isn't a strange concept to us as humans. We go through our lives based on time. We make plans and decisions based on time. But, what does time really mean, what happens when you are not on time, what happens when time gets to you?

According to Wikipedia; Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. That is to say, time spans continuously, it's the only factor that has witnessed the birth,  growth and death of events, generations, technology and so on.

The Flair

Among many wonderful grand things, I've been told by some people that I have a flair for the dramatic. The "drama king", they'd call me. The good kind of dramatic, I mean - not the overdo illogical drama screamers.

They say I walk, talk and pose dramatic.
(Do the pictures above, and below look dramatic to you? No, right? I know!! )

BEND THE KNEE!

Previously on this column: We talked...or well, I wrote and you probably read or stubbornly refused to open that link about Donald Trump's YOU'RE FIRED! anthem. Now open and read - or I cry.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury, and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before” - President Donald Trump (United States)

"The Trump group's declaration of the reckless nuclear war exercises against the DPRK is a reckless behaviour, driving the situation into the uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war”- North Korean state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun

"Now that the DPRK's (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name) capability to strike the very heart of the US at any given time has been physically proved, the US would find it more difficult to dare attack the DPRK"- the North Korean Foreign Ministry

The N Word

"My nigga!!"
"The realest nigga I know!"

Ahem* ...I'm sure you've heard "The N word" used once or twice before, if not numerous times on a daily basis.

Some people are comfortable hearing this word, while some aren't - especially from white people, because it's taken as a racial slur, due to the origin of the word, ie from the term "nigger" which is a derogatory term for africans (including African Americans etc)

Looking at the history of the word, you'd see that the word "nigga" is an attempt to rebrand the insulting term given the africans, to make it less demeaning. Like an attempt to turn chains into arm accessories. But irregardless of this, it's roots are inherently based in the enslavement of a race and an assault of the human spirit.

I personally think it doesn't matter who uses the word. It's still a slur, it doesn't matter if you change "er" to an "a".

Drugs In ABUAD

(1)

So, I'm not meant to be online but I just happened to see this twitter thread that annoyed me so much this very good morning.😡😡😡

I do NOT agree with all the fingers pointing at ABUAD or it's school system as the cause of drug addiction.

I'm just here waiting for their concrete evidence, cuz the majority of ppl I know don't do drugs. All those people need to check the kind of company they keep.👌

October Rush (Part One - Him)

Him:

I had just come back to this academic prison yard yesterday. I would have loved to resume late, but then I would miss out on all the fresh meat in the school.

I couldn't trust the other boys in school to maintain themselves for long. It was hunting season - it was every lion for himself.

October Rush (Part One - Her)

DAY ONE:

Her:

It was the second day of resumption of the old students. They came like in an army triumphant.
Making noise everywhere

I should have known the first day he walked up to me that he was trouble. He came looking all fly, saying hi with a face like this:

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) - Movie Review

SUMMARY:
“When’s our next mission?”
“We’ll call you.”
Finally, Marvel’s cinematic take on spider-man is here and it doesn’t disappoint! It’s equally fun and thrilling as its other franchises but is it the original movie we’ve all been waiting for? Mostly, yes!

RATING: 8.5/10

I think it's weird to tell people that I want to "set them on fire".

Don't you? I mean. Really. What would YOU think, after hearing that? But before you keep getting any more wrong ideas, let me explain...

Top 10 things every 100 level ABUAD student needs to know

By Ese-Oghene Ujevbiruvbe

1. Choose your friends carefully

The friends you choose would either finish happily and successfully with you or ruin you. Choose them wisely (Especially the ones that love sharwama😉🙃)

2. How to handle Congresses

If you are going for it go. Otherwise do not hang around aimlessly except you are actually looking for who to send you there. Most important if you are not going, stash your gadgets safely.

10 things we could learn from Dogs

If we were really very open minded, and interested in viewing the world in an unorthdox way, we would see that  Dogs could teach us things, the simple everyday important things like...

1. When loved ones come home always run to greet them.
Take nothing and no-one for granted. Show love every moment, and in every way.
