Lessons we learnt from the Presidential debate

[5min Read]

The Presidential debate held on the evening of 19th of January, 2019 or well, something like it held.

You probably watched and enjoyed a group of intellectuals brainstorm. Another group probably was too upset about the absence of the big guns. Yet another arrived at a factual destination that this columnist arrived at a long time ago, the fact that we’re practically toast as a nation.

Others didn’t even bother. Now whether you were a glass half-full or glass-half empty sort of person is of no real worry to this columnist.

Time for some objectivity though.

The N Word

"My nigga!!"
"The realest nigga I know!"

Ahem* ...I'm sure you've heard "The N word" used once or twice before, if not numerous times on a daily basis.

Some people are comfortable hearing this word, while some aren't - especially from white people, because it's taken as a racial slur, due to the origin of the word, ie from the term "nigger" which is a derogatory term for africans (including African Americans etc)

Looking at the history of the word, you'd see that the word "nigga" is an attempt to rebrand the insulting term given the africans, to make it less demeaning. Like an attempt to turn chains into arm accessories. But irregardless of this, it's roots are inherently based in the enslavement of a race and an assault of the human spirit.

I personally think it doesn't matter who uses the word. It's still a slur, it doesn't matter if you change "er" to an "a".

My Love Story

By Patsy

He was my childhood friend. I can't remember how exactly we met, but he was always around. They always talked about him and pushed me towards him and made sure he followed me everywhere. It caught on. I kinda built my life around him. I knew what he liked and disliked, and we talked every morning and night before I went to bed. He was mummy's ideal man for me.

But I grew up.

The Odenigbo Experience: The Intellectual and Cultural Festival

Many people may have heard about the Odenigbo festival, many people may not. All in all, I just decided to use this medium to share a little light on my experience today on the “Intellectual and Cutural Festival” aspect which I attended.

So…..I was asked to go to this festival thing by my dear mother today. She said it was an Intellectual Cultural festival. It was meant to be part of a larger festival named the “Odenigbo” held in Owerri every year. I have a very limited amount of information on it at the moment however, so I will refrain on speaking on matters I do not know a lot about. In this day and age, the end result would be that I’d end up throwing controversy on myself if that were the case.

1. When you entertain the whole village
You know...when everybody decides that your house has suddenly become the best eatery around. Better yet? The food is free. They just cannot resist it. Joyful times :|
You've become the breadgiver (or in the childrens' case - the breadserver) for everyone around for miles and miles....

2. When the whole village entertains you
When you decide that you don't want to spend your own money or eat your own food, you know that hot tasty meal is just a few footsteps across into the other compounds around. You go about ever searching for the next hot meal.
