The Mirror, The People and The Mind

By Olamide Oluwole

I'll give you three scenarios, you'll decide.
Case 1
She looked in the mirror
She decided she's beautiful
She went out,
Her mind convinced she's beautiful
But then,
Someone asked if she's okay
Her face looks tired
At that moment,
Her mind was convinced she's not beautiful
So she continued her day sad and solemn
With the mindset she's not beautiful

Classroom of Angels

A Pastor was speaking about prayer being taken out of public schools. First he said; I get a lot of mail taking about " God being kicked out of school ". Let me tell you, if there is any kicking to be done, God will be the one doing all the kicking. When a Christian child is dropped off at school,God does not abandoned them at the front door.

Let me read you a letter from a third grade elementary school teacher. The sum of the letter was as follows;......

Friends and Frienemies

What use is forgiving your ENEMIES, if you can't even forgive your own FRIENDS?

There's this "humour quote" that says - "The bible probably tells us to love our neighbours and love our enemies, probably because they are generally the same people".

Sometimes even the funniest statements contain constants of truth. Think of it this way - a lot of times your 'enemies' are simply friends that you haven't made yet, and I believe that friends are simply 'enemies' you've come to understand.

When You Need Me

"Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." - Maya Angelou

You probably already know how it feels when you think someone is using you.

We've all got that person, who doesn't remember us till they need that one favour only we can help with... and even then, it feels they might only be contacting us because they couldn't find anyone else. Sometimes you end up feeling like the last resort.

....  Hurts, doesn't it?

I, Difference

“The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers, but above all - the world needs dreamers who do.” | Sarah Breathnach

I've been witness to a lot of controversial events that have happened around me in the last month or so.

Granted, not as controversial as a lot of major things in the world might actually be, such as the killing of numerous Paris citizens by terrorists, rising of the Naira-Dollar rate to N400, or the kidnapping of a 14 year old girl from her home and family to be converted to a different religion, forcibly married and having her age falsified.

But simply the less grandiose controversies that get lost in day to day life... in the hustle and bustle of todays' modern digital and, increasingly, reality detached age. Things that bother a lot of us, most everyday. Things that need to change. Things that, if left unchecked, only grow bigger and bigger, eventually becoming - or lending a hand - to the grandiose controversies we see today.

The world we live in, today, is both better and worse than yesterdays world.

Picture Memories

I'm an extreme photographer :P . I've been known to take quite a few pictures at everywhere i go and anything I do. I take pictures of interesting things, people, sights or events. Anything I'd want to remember or talk about with someone someday.

They say 'a picture is worth a thousand words', and maybe it's true. You can tell a lot about a person from their pictures. Even a single one.

The Odenigbo Experience: The Intellectual and Cultural Festival

Many people may have heard about the Odenigbo festival, many people may not. All in all, I just decided to use this medium to share a little light on my experience today on the “Intellectual and Cutural Festival” aspect which I attended.

So…..I was asked to go to this festival thing by my dear mother today. She said it was an Intellectual Cultural festival. It was meant to be part of a larger festival named the “Odenigbo” held in Owerri every year. I have a very limited amount of information on it at the moment however, so I will refrain on speaking on matters I do not know a lot about. In this day and age, the end result would be that I’d end up throwing controversy on myself if that were the case.

The Meaning of Life

"...Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.” | Marianne Williamson

"Life is many things, but above all others, it is the chance you've been waiting for." | Robert Brault

Philosophers, sages and bored teenagers throughout history have examined a critical and sometimes controversial question that has churned out an innumerable multiplex of theories and philosophies over the years.

This question is...

"What is the meaning of life."

I'm obviously not referring to either the definition seen in the Oxford dictionary or the one given by romanian pop twins in one of my earlier articles ie "Touch my bum. This is life"

The Killing Expectations – Romance

I strongly disagree with the picture up above. This is the kind of thing that gets relationships, that could have been great, messed up and destroyed. Communication is a two-way process. The phone works BOTH ways. If he refuses to call, then you should try to…. Don’t go giving up on a relationship because of pride. Pride is good for absolutely NOTHING but killing. It will kill your friendship, it will kill your relationships, it WILL kill your connections.

The Wardrobe and The Bank

Ok so apparently our dear ol’ senators are getting 21.5 million naira as “wardrobe allowance” – which to be honest, I’m actually wondering how the people that came up with this budget managed to provide any kind of good reason for. Click on read more....

How To Choose Happiness: The Simple Things

"You can look ahead to happiness, and you can look back on it, but it's so hard to notice it to your left or right."
- Robert Brault

The simple things. Those are the things that really matter in the the end once you think about it.

Happiness is something we all dearly crave. Even as babies, the intrinsic yearning shows in the longing for comfort. Food. Warmth. Closeness. Peace. Love. The little things are all a baby requires to be happy. To have its eyes crinkle and shine, like stars dancing with joy.

"What ARE the simple things?" you may wonder. What do they do. In relation to its referring term the "simple things" are just that. Simple.

Love.

Air.

Light.
