What She taught me

[3 min read]

This year, I was taught a very important lesson by my sister. I'm going to share it and keep it short.

See, I had just started my internship (as a Medical Laboratory Science graduate) after being home for almost a year and in the first few weeks, I was diligent.

Very diligent.

I never knew my father,
But I had heard from my mother,
That he was the best hero there ever was,
With his smile he ended wars.

My Take on Acrimony

[5 min read]

So, I finally watched Acrimony-hold on, don't close the tab or leave this page just yet. It has become a touchy movie some people would rather avoid and while I can understand the ravings, I think they are quite unnecessary.
Anyways, if we must apportion blame, let's do it right 😁

Sports Weekly - Part 1

[2min read]

Liverpool defeat Spurs as unbeaten run continues.

The weekend started with a top-of-the-table clash as Liverpool defeated Tottenham hotspurs in a thrilling clash on Saturday. Wijunaldum scored the first goal for Liverpool and Firmino came through with a belter to put Liverpool two nil up; Lamela  scored a late goal to setup a tense finale.

It was also a good week for the top teams in the football leagues as most of them won, asides Real Madrid, who drew 1-1 with Athletic Bilabo over the weekend. In other news, Cristiano Ronaldo, popularly known as ‘ororo’, scored his first and second goals for Juventus on Saturday against Sassuolo.

Leonardo's Hands

Wedding bells you see
Rang so loud this morning.

Open up those doors,
Let her walk in slow.
Everyone watches as her face glows,
There she is. My wife by tomorrow.

Being a BUT

[4 min read]

In a world where things literally have gone upside down, being true to who you are and letting the world know is a risky risk

I know the world is messed up, and finding good people is like taking the ring to Mount Doom in Mordor 😎. There are, however, good people. You may have met some, you may be one. I bet you've even met some in unexpected places right? Well, I am one of the good ones (😭😭😭is someone doubting me??) and boy, have I had issues with other good people-good people with bad experiences. Really bad experiences.

Dealing with Failure

[1 min read]

I was five when it happened,
It was at my aunty's wedding - the one that never smiled.

The usher had passed it to me without a second glance,
A hurried look on her face, like she had other things to attend to.

I didn't mind because I had gotten it.
It was a souvenir, a fan shaped like a hand.

Alright, let's get right into it.}

‘You see, about 18 months ago, Segun fell really ill and we took him to the hospital. Our doctor, I’m sure you know him he has been here few times, diagnosed him with leukemia.’

‘What is leukemia?’

‘It is the cancer of the blood.’

‘Oh.'

The Perfect Friend

[1 min read]

Boys and girls in the streets,
Laughing, joking, singing and dancing,
Making memories in the sun,
The summer sun in mid August.

Friends they think they really are,
Friends they think they have,
Friends they hope will never leave,
Friends who will still move from west to east.

DEFEATED NOT - Episode 4

[4 min read]

My new mother and I got home around 7pm. I met my two new brothers and I honestly did not know what to do, because I had never really been around boys, it was difficult to know what to say or do, but I felt certain they would be better than the girls back at the house-that was what the orphanage was called. So I smiled and said good evening. I could not tell if they were happy or angry so I stopped smiling and bowed my head.

TRAGEDY IN LAGOS

[2 mins read]

On the 28 of June, 2018, something terrible happened in our ever bubbly city of Lagos. A tanker, which had a brake failure loaded with PMS( Premium Motor Spirit) caught fire around Otedola bridge, Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Several cars with people in them set ablaze as the tanker exploded, it has been reported that 10 commuters burnt to death while 54 vehicles were consumed by the inferno.

This tragedy points out the defect in our road safety system in Nigeria. Under no circumstance should a tank driver endanger his life and others by driving a vehicle with brake failure.  Personally, I blame the Federal road safety corpse(FRSC) for this catastrophic event.  The driver knew that the highest a police could do is take a bribe, and he will be allowed to continue with his journey. Too many innocent lives were lost.

The government needs to enforce strict road safety laws especially to tank drivers or there should simply create a different route in which petroleum can be transported like other well-developed countries.

The picture above shows how petroleum is transported in Alberta Canada. As a nation we Nigerians need to take action. Instead of taking action, our leaders are asking us to pray.  How is prayer going to change bad road, bad security, bad governance, bad health care, bad educational system? It's time for action and prayers.

Buy me a rose

[1 min read]

I once met a lady with an amazing soul,
She had  blue eyes and a wonderful smile,
She had that kind of love that could fill any hole,
She had that laugh that resounded in your head for a while.

'There was no way I was letting her go' I thought,
'She was the one' I also thought.
And everytime she smiled over her shoulder,
She looked a lifetime younger.

One day while we drank cocoa on a blissful Sunday 5pm,
She leaned back into the crook of my arm,
And slightly played with her dress hem,
"Buy me a rose please dear dear Max."

Of course I replied "I'll get you one, is that all you want?"
She nodded and smiled.
"I'd give you the moon if that's what you want."
"I'll take it", she said with yet another smile.

The next day I bought her the rose,
And a necklace coloured moonlight blue.
But then, the Lord called her home.
I mourned for a decade,
Her going was all too soon.

And even though I  got married  a decade later,
Every night as I laid in bed I could still hear her,
"Buy me a rose Max."
That's all she ever asked.

Between A Rock And A Hard Place

Too heavy in my chest.
These are words I can't express.
I've tried to swallow but I can't digest.

Alone

[1 min read]

I decided to look up the word ‘alone’
So I checked the dictionary on my phone,
And the results got me thinking.
So I did a bit more of searching,
I decided to look up loneliness,
But that just got my thoughts in a bit of a mess.

He'd come to the house once or seven times a week,
