Bad Doc, Good Doc

[3min Read]

I won't lie.

I used to have a preconceived notion of how doctors should be. Thought they should always be serious, organized, super early, always focused; like a high precision laser, I expected them to be prim and proper at every waking moment. I looked up to that image.

Maybe it had to do something with the medical school I trained in. Most of the consultants were always professional, formal and dressed up. We didn't often see them outside the hospital, or in their comfort zones being "human".

Bleacheth No More

As much as possible, you should avoid skin lightening creams (bleaching creams).
While you may get lucky, there are quite a few people who don't. There are scores of side effects that can occur with the use of lightening creams because of the ingredients used to make them, including steroids, mercury, hydroquinone etc.
There are many side effects to using these creams, and the problem is that some of these issues only show up years or decades after you've used them. Sometimes even if you've stopped already.

The Argument

[3min Read]

Now hold up for a second.

I know what you're thinking. Okay, maybe not - since I'm not a mind-reader. But I do assume that once you saw the title of this article, what came to mind was violent, rash verbal exchanges revolving around ego and immediate abandonment of home training.

But no, I meant non-violent arguments. Debates. Where an exchange and interaction of ideas and viewpoints take place.

It doesn't have to be a "I'm right, and you're wrong" scenario, or a competition for who can hurl the most colorful insult. Because I've noticed that's what happens in a lot of arguments. One person gets vexed by the opinion of the other - or his/her personal inability to reply with a logical intelligent comeback, and thus tosses the nastiest verbal attack that comes to mind. All of a sudden; a peaceful but tense argument becomes a fight between two pigs rolling around in the cafeteria, or in the comment section of some social media platform.

Hating Catfish

[3min Read]

One day when I was in 300 level in the university, I went to go see a potential "interest" of mine - who I had met on Facebook, in a class at the school. So I gingerly went with excitement in my heart and seeds of butterflies in my stomach. From her profile picture, and other photos I had seen, she was gorgeous. I hadn't known her for long, but I believed myself lucky - someone with a beautiful, open mind and "stunning looks". So I peeked into the class eagerly, looking for the girl I had seen in the pictures. I didn't see her. But I did see someone who could not possibly be the girl I'd been so interested in meeting.

I thought to myself, "Maybe she's late". So I sent a text, "Where are you?". Then she sent back a reply "I'm here in the class". Then she turned back to stare at me. At that moment, terror gripped my heart.

Storyteller - It's Not Fair

[4min Read]

Her name was Rose Aliko. She was a multimillionaire. Her peers and staff described her as the most joyous person they'd ever met. Always kind and helpful, sacrificing whatever she could for those who needed it, and always reaching for new heights.

Today, she was going to visit him. It was a tradition. She wouldn't miss it for the world. When she got there, she laid the flowers down, as she smiled and told him "Happy Birthday". She did this every year. Wore a nice dress. Sprayed perfume. Wore pretty makeup and drove by herself to meet him.

"Happy birthday", she would tell him. There was no reply as always. But it was okay. She was used to it. She didn't expect much anyways - because as always, she was only here to give and give and give. She saw nothing wrong with it. She was happy this way.

She recalled the first time they met. Ten years ago, on a bridge in the city. It was not a romantic meeting. You see, she had been trying to kill herself.

How to Dodge A Shot

*Dodge*   *Dodge*   *Superdodge*

We've had quite a lot of articles, and memes, and posts and support on "Shooting your shot". You know... go all out for the person of your dreams. Hit the nail on the head, be brave and all that.

But, have you noticed that no-one has ever talked about how to DODGE a shot?

Let's be honest here. Not everyone that shoots at us is our type. Or good for us. Or comes when we're ready. Most people assume every one is up and ready, waiting for either Prince Charming, or Princess Perfect to look our way. Some people are actually happy being single for a while, some people are just getting out of a tough relationship, and some people are looking for something you just may not have to give at the time.

Now it can be a little distressing when you're approached by someone, either in real life or over the phone, who wants something you simply cannot give at the moment.

I won't lie and tell you that there's a 100% sure fire way of dodging a shot, or telling someone no. There isn't. People are different, and you'll need to learn how to adapt to respond to unwanted approaches.

But hey, let's get into the dodge techniques before you get bored already.

1. Have an open mind.

This is very important. And we put it first, because if we put everything else first you may be wrongly seen as a woman/man hater.

The truth is, no matter who pops into your dm, you can't say for sure what the person wants until they say it. If not directly, then by hinting. Some people actually only want to be friends. Yes. It happens.

Also, the truth is there are times you will discover that people you thought you couldn't fit with, will turn out to be amazing for you. Sometimes even everything you needed. So don't be so stubborn that you're blind to see the colors you need, because it's not the color you've always dreamt of.

Vote For Me

Emeka was a hard-working, honest man.

He was head prefect of his school in SS2, got several positions of leadership in his SUG, held several posts in various NGO' s, both national and international. He always inspired people to follow him to do the right thing, and always did his best to curtail corruption anywhere he saw it. Soon enough he met a man, Mr. Tunde Adebanjo, who was making waves as a statesman and champion of the people. He worked in the government, and did so much for his people.

Tunde inspired him to enter the government too. He could change the country!! He could fix all the problems that the past leaders had been dumping on the system for years since. All he needed to do was win - and by the grace of God, he did...
