The Mother-In-Law

By Chimamkpam Onyenezi

There was a time when not having a baby in a marriage used to be the primary problem of couples. Well, its understandable when that happens - because of our culture here in Nigeria, but nowadays it seems that not having a child in a marriage just became a secondary problem. Now, the MOTHER IN-LAWS have just upgraded themselves to be the primary problem in the home of their children.

Are You Enjoying?

Tell me… Are you enjoying yourself?

People will often tell you to enjoy yourself, and live life to the fullest; but, are you really living your life this way? Do you know how to? Do you even know what life means? Well, let me tell you. You are life, yes! You and I.

Stereotype Much?

When you are an Ijebu, man and your friends always make fun of your stingy nature, does it bother you? When ‘Oyinbos’ think that you come from a country where gorillas and bears walk around freely, and you live in thatched houses - even in this 21st century, how do you feel? …Angry? Hurt? Upset?

Every day, we face people who categorize us and make assumptions based on tribe, race, appearance, religion, amongst others. These are stereotypes, and we unfortunately live, today, in a society that overindulges in them.

Does Nigeria exist?

By Viola Okpara

Does Nigeria exist?

The question appears weird - I know.... very much like a question of one in an alcohol induced stupor. But are there people, who are, in fact through-and-through, purely and completely, simply "Nigerians"?

Aren't the yoruba more yoruba or the Hausa more Hausa or the Efik more Efik or Igbo more Igbo than being 'Nigerians'?

Blog Hiatus....

Hello everybody....

Due to some pressing issues, I unfortunately have to go on a short leave from making any further blog posts to conserve my time and focus for the moment. I'd love to continue talking and interacting with everyone, but it seems things have gotten a little out of hand with some stuff.

Being a medical student is a bit hard at times. But I love it all the more. Hope to be back soon everyone.

School and The Monster

It's understandable that most people wouldn't like school since they look at it as a cage. Like a monster holding them in. They feel like they're literally in the belly of the beast they just wait for the time to finish up and the bell to ring so they can rush out and away ASAP. I'm talking about teenagers or young adults here by the way. They believe in that situation that they're like puppets on a string. They want freedom. They want space. They want to have fun.

Not so much to ask right? It seems that they only want so little which is in fact, really so much.

The thing is - young adults seem to be  concerned about doing everything else that there is to do outside the school that they've  start to want nothing to do either what goes on on it.

Why? Restrictions? Authority issues? Personal space? Nutella + Cookies?
