As a child I heard that the hand of Midas turned everything to gold,
And that the heart of Midas was far far from gold.
Everything in the hand’s path it turned to gold,
It turned the water to gold,
And the leaves to gold.
Everything except the heart, it turned to gold
And one day, it turned his daughter to gold.
Sad he was but it was done.
Then he tried to turn his heart to gold,
Thinking it would turn the hands of time.
But it only made his heart heavy and cold,
And so Midas died of a heavy golden heart.
Even with everything he had turned to gold,
The last word he remembered in gold? Greed.
