Unpopular Opinion: IDGAF

[3 min read]

Be nice to everyone you meet, they are fighting a battle you know nothing about
- Unknown

Maybe... instead of telling people they are flawless, and perfect the way they are, we should tell them that they could be better.

I've seen quite a great number of people who are self-obsessed with their own opinions, especially with positive reinforcement from online quotes about how you should not care what anyone says about you, and how you should not give an "F" word.

DEFEATED NOT - EPISODE 2

[3 min read]

I knew Mrs. Hadiza was lying when she told us months before about the economy’s recession in the country, and how it was difficult for most families to get by, and that was why the ration of food served to us reduced virtually by half and we ate more of egg - how I hated boiled egg. I hoped I would not have to eat boiled egg anymore when I got to my new home anyways.

My suspicions were however confirmed when Miss. Bola called me aside one day after lunch. I did not know what to feel actually because whenever anyone was called aside after lunch it meant the person had done a bad thing and must read a chapter of the Bible while writing down whatever she learns from the chapter and not only that, but gets to discuss during the night devotion whatever it was she learnt, so there was no escaping it. I really did not like reading the bible, because it was complex to understand.

BANKSTATEMENTS POST 5

RIGHT  DOWN THE MIDDLE

Hi @bankstatements18.

I'm in a long distance relationship with a guy that really loves me but then I don't think I know what love is.

First and foremost, we are of different tribes and denominations.. I'm Catholic and my dad is strongly against me moving to another church.. Worst of all, marrying into this particular tribe he's from will be a big problem.

Where Were You?

WHERE WERE YOU
Kelechi Nwa-Uwa

Where were you when she needed you?
When she cried desperately for your attention?
When depression reared its ugly head?
When you were all she had left?

Did you even hear her call out for you?
Did you care?
Did her gradual withdrawal even occur to you?
Did you notice the tear streaks? Red eyes?
The cracked voice? The broken spirit?

That day in the Summer

That day in the cold
Stood Annie anything but old
Spirit as sharp as knife
Soul fearless with no strife

The women three.
Came and told fate to little Annie
And though frightened she was
They echoed death that would be all

So little Annie ran home and with pen and paper wrote
As the witches had echoed
Death will come for us all
One day in the spring winter or fall

Like my earlier promise to review fashion shows, here is my take on the just concluded Lagos fashion week that took place from march 23rd to 25th 2018 sponsored by Heineken.

Although I wasn’t in attendance, I was privileged to exhaust my MTN data bundle on YouTube watching the show through and through including the highlights.( see my life).

Lagos fashion week popularly abbreviated as LFDW  (i.e. Lagos Fashion and Design Week) is an annual, multi-day fashion event held in Lagos, Nigeria and was founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele. LFDWNG provides a platform for buyers, media, and fashion enthusiasts to view collections from leading designs in Nigeria and from across Africa.

The platform aims to cut across geographic and cultural barriers, and place itself as a business of fashion and design event targeted at showcasing the best of the African fashion and design industry, drive the Nigerian fashion industry and to ultimately uplift its profile within the economy. LFDW has expanded its scope by creating two main platforms that run concurrently with the fashion week: Fashion Business series and Fashion Focus. LFDWNG also advocates for the industry with the government as well as potential investors.

This year’s show, although it started an hour late (Nigerian time *rolls eyes*), was a lot different from their other shows. The venue for this year's show was The wings by Oando, and space had some sort of resemblance to a New York loft. As opposed to last year, the decorations were kept to a minimal as rows of white benches faced a slightly risen white platform. The entire setup was a lot more understated than its September counterpart and it was evident that the clothes were the only attraction this year.

This year's fashion week consisted of a host of designers each bringing up different perspectives and advising us to embrace ourselves, be edgy, bold and accepting through their clothes. The show's schedule included:

Friday, March 23:
Gozel Green(6:00-6:30), Mo Augusto(7:30-8:00), IAMISIGO(9:00-9:30)

Saturday, March 24:
Sisiano(1:30-2:00), Re(3:00-3:30),  Kenneth Ize(4:30-5:00), Style Temple(6:00-6:30), Orange Culture(7:30-8:00)

Sunday, March 25:
Maxivive(1:30-2:00), Sunny Rose(3:00-3:30), Emmy Kasbit(4:30-5:00), Onalaja(6:00-6:30), Tsemaye Binitie(7:30-8:00), Bridget Awosika(9:00-9:30)

BANKSTATEMENTS POST 4

Clogged In The Upstairs

Hi @bankstatements1,

Some years ago, my best friend and I met two guys who were extremely close. One of them became my friend and got real close to me, the other also got close to my friend. After a while, we all started dating. I and the guy, my friend and the other guy.

Everything was okay for a while, then I got closer to the other guy (my friend’s boyfriend) and to my initial surprise we started getting intimate too.
I then realized I really liked him and he liked me too. After a very long time of fighting it and equally doing everything we could to avoid it, I got tired and I could not continue with the deceit. I had found someone else I liked more than my boyfriend so I broke up with my boyfriend without no one’s consultation.

Such Longings

I want to feel something,

I'm tired of having nothing.

I want to be doted upon,

As the thread of life is spun,

I want to have the heartache,

I want to eat and have my cake.

I want the worrying,

Worrying that comes from loving.

THE LONG LOST SACRED ART OF SHUTTING UP

By X

A lot of times, people feel their opinions are needed, even when not asked for and I wonder, why?

Why can’t you just seem to shut up and mind your business, rather than be all up in my business, blabbing about stuff that you have no business with? And it’s especially in a scenario where they have no idea whatsoever of the issue that they show up like fishes gasping for breath from all the gossips they’ve said and heard.

OH! Dear Pain - Episode 2

Back at the hotel, Chris was restless, he still couldn't wrap his fingers around what has happened. She actually said "no", that sweet little fine face said No! Of course he's still Chris, the irresistible one. He stood in front of the mirror, staring in admiration with a grin. Damn! God the creator really does love him.

"I just need to find her dripping button" He said to himself. He had a breakfast meeting the next day, after which he would visit the Mona Lisa.

Stretching lazily he reached for his phone, it was 2:47 am. Dear Time, pls move quickly. He laid back and rummaged on the beauty he saw yesterday. At last it was morning, a quick shower and a need to look peng today. He searched for his most favorite shirt of all time, which has never disappointed him and his wing pants. He loved the sight of his reflection in the mirror.

His phone rang, it was his colleague Philip, they both came to Enugu together for this software job.

"Hey Phil, what's up?"
"Where are you Chris? These guys from Kells Services are here, bro you're 10 mins late!"

Satisfy your craving with yummy fluffy pancakes

Hi everyone! Hope you enjoyed the Easter break? Well you  should have if you followed our party jollof rice recipe😁 for your Easter Sunday rice .

So today we'd be learning how to prepare something easy and quick - Pancakes
Yes you heard me, pancakes are easy and fast to prepare contrary to the thoughts harboured by many people.

A pancake is a flat cake often thin and round prepared from a starch based batter that may contain eggs, milk and butter and cooked on a hot surface such as a girdle or frying pan often frying with oil or butter.
Growing up, mum rarely prepared pancakes so whenever i got to eat it, it felt special like i was eating dominos pizza or something. Don't get me wrong pancakes serve as a special meal especially when well prepared but I'm saying if you have a mum like mine who is not a fan of flour meals or ‘oyinbo food' like some African Mothers would call it, worry no more, you are about to learn how to prepare that flat round fluffy goodness😋.

So goodbye to cravings that never get satisfied.

Nowadays, it's preparation has been made relatively easy with the emergence of pancake mix. However, mixing the ingredients yourself from scratch would give you the opportunity to make it to your taste. For example some would want less sugar, no egg at all and other specifications you might have.

Below is a quick and easy recipe for one of the best pancakes you can get anywhere in the world.
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, melted

Directions
*In a small bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
(Author's note: Always combine the dry ingredients first )

*Combine egg, milk and shortening; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
(Author's Note: Wet ingredients should be added by making a well at the center of the dry ingredients and adding in gradually)

*Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto a greased non sticky frying pan.
(Author's Note: Oil or butter can be used for frying)

*Turn when bubbles form on top of pancakes; cook until the second side is golden brown.

Pancakes can be thin or thick, this depends on the thickness of the batter. Less liquid if you want it thick and more if you prefer it thin.
There you have it, quick and easy recipe for tasty pancakes. Please do try it out and drop your comments!

Food Fact #1 - Humans are born craving sugar
Yeah!! So don't beat yourself up for always going back to that chocolate or soda except of course you are not human.

The Glory Of Heartbreak

We have romanticized heartbreak for too long....

Turned it into an experience that marks maturity.

But these wounds are not beautiful. No matter how pretty the words we write them with are.
It is not a fad. It is not a marker of life growth. You see poetry on heartbreak and you tell him it's beautiful. But he used blood for ink, and his scars for the paper.
