Unpopular Opinion: IDGAF

[3 min read]

Be nice to everyone you meet, they are fighting a battle you know nothing about
- Unknown

Maybe... instead of telling people they are flawless, and perfect the way they are, we should tell them that they could be better.

I've seen quite a great number of people who are self-obsessed with their own opinions, especially with positive reinforcement from online quotes about how you should not care what anyone says about you, and how you should not give an "F" word.

I realize we are disenchanted with public opinion, because humans can be be savage and scathing with words and attitudes. And the foremost solution that we prescribe on all this is that you should get a thick skin, block your ears - and imagine anyone who doesn't agree with you, as faeces beneath your feet.

Apparently, everyone who doesn't agree with you is a hater. And if they're not with you, then they're automatically against you. But that is a dictatorial mentality. And it's sad. We are creating a hateful generation, and calling it strength. And a lot of the most influential people are the ones pushing this attitude onto the people who admire them.

You say and sing their lyrics and make all the middle finger signs to the sky, and defend it saying "it's just a song". But it's not. It is a message. And not only are you listening to it, you are broadcasting it. You are giving power to a problem.

Funny how there is little popularity in telling people to be kind and good hearted, and forgiving. It's too hard. Why should we let go of this feeling? It's not our fault. We didn't ask for this. We make so many excuses as to why should be angry, but almost absolutely none for why we should not. Is happiness now a sin or something?

We have so much anger, and since the easiest way to find relief, is to hold on to it and lash out to the world - like a cane on the buttocks of a young school child that has the same name as the senior that tormented you in the past. We're holding on like our dear lives depend on it, instead of letting go. We believe we deserve to be angry. We deserve to have our agonies heard. We deserve to make the world bow at our feet because we have felt a terrible pain - presumably, a type that no-one else has felt. And we so often believe that nobody can understand us, if they haven't felt what we've felt. (I won't say this is completely untrue however)

But all this cannot create a better world. We are angry people, and here we are, celebrating pain and hatred. You can twist it all the ways you want, but when you break it down, and examine it all at the core objectively, you'll see how bad of a system it is.

And sometimes, because they occasionally sprinkle a few motivational lines and speeches in between the IDGAF, and say an inspiring word or two, we celebrate the people promoting this self-centeredness, as people of greatness.

I'm not saying that every celebrity is an agent of the devil. But a lot of the time, there is so much poison in between the sugar they're feeding us, and we're taking full portions because it seems to be a familiar taste. But this is disease that we are spreading - and we are making it into a fashion, to be sick. The popular opinion is; if you're hit hard, then learn to hit back harder.

I know we're all hurt in one way or another. Some by action, and some by inaction. Some by intention, some by misentention. There are too msny variables to contrast and list out. But we don't have to be so bitter about it, that we lose our empathy for everyone else in the world.

Just calm down a bit.

Not all the world is out to get you. And not everyone wants to rip away your wings. You don't need to spread the hurt you recieved. Think of how much better would you feel if you never received it.

Sometimes, you should give an F word. Before we all die of emotional entropy. Where nobody, nowhere, cares about nothing at all.

Thanks for reading - and do share it out.

There is so much truth in this article. We already have enough demons to fight, this shouldn't be another war. We should care but just learn to know when to sieve what we allow into our consciousness. This life is challenging enough as it is, let's not add more challenges abeg.

Word ❕❕❕
I honestly don't know what the world is coming to no love,no care, infact you rarely hear music nowadays promoting world peace, Love, and Unity. There's nothing wrong with caring for one another but now even most people being cared for Wouldn't value it..........who knew caring for someone could be a problem. Tbh there's nothing wrong If we actually GAF once in a while .

I know right.
We shouldn't be adding to the existing problems.

The problem is that so many people don't see the attitude as a problem, but instead see it as a solution.

I wish people heard this more, everyone wants to be a 'savage' these days

❤ I think we (me included) should all try to be a little bit 'kinder' and less 'Savage'.

You're so right. It's like everyone wants to see who can be the most "savage" so they can go viral and get 5 minutes of fame on instagram and Twitter accounts.

We rarely ever applaud those who correct and teach. We seem more interested in who can dish out the most scathing insults. Like it's a competition.

I still wonder what we're even supposed to win.
