Something Simple

Our first mistake was in expecting  Buhari to fix Nigeria.

He is just one man.

Irregardless of his past or present track record, we should never have expected any one man to fix our country for us. Nigeria wasn't made by one man - and right now, it can't be fixed by just one either.

Our next mistake was in expecting the government to fix the country for us.

We all know how a large majority of politicians are self-involved, only there for the money and influence and unaligned - not even slightly, with the majority of the status quo. Living in gold houses and making decisions for those in wood and mud houses.

They are removed from the system. They don't go to the same markets you do. They don't eat at the bukka like you do. They don't use the same phones you do, or manage the shops you do. Their children do not go to the same schools yours do. How many problems will a man earning N5,000,000 per month, and a man earning N20,000 share?

How will he fix your problems when he doesn't know them?

Our problems are right next to us. They face to face and eyeball to eyeball. They sleep with us. They beat us on the road. They bite us in the farm. They stare at us on our way to school. They insult us. They cheat us.

You know what they are.

Nigeria is a big country, and it has many little problems. Some of which have very simple solutions. Some of which can be removed with the right change in mindset.

While we complain and groan and whine about Buhari this, Buhari that - What have we done, individually, for the progress of our nation? For ourselves.

There is litter on the road - But we keep throwing every type of trash that reaches our hands to every gutter and wayside.

There is bias in companies and organizations, but we still do "My guy, my guy" , "My brother, my brother".

There is a problem of professional inadequacy, quack practitioners, workless diplomas and Ill-equipped staff, but we still cheat in schools, cut corners in our workplace and ignore technical knowledge training.

See. Nigeria's problem is much more than just the rising price of the dollar.

There are many things wrong with the country, and sometimes we can do simple things to fix them. Do something simple; Don't throw litter on the roads - find a trash can or take it home. Teach a child not to have prejudice. Get a skill and train it. Stand against injustice - it will only grow if you ignore it. Don't encourage bribery - even in the small things. Work hard for something that you belong to. Learn English and a native language. These are just some of the simple things.

Don't just focus, alone, on all the big problems - Electricity, Fuel price, budget sizes. There's only so much you, individually, can do about them. Do the ones you can do. Don't wait for big people to fix all your small problems.

Help Nigeria Shine. Do Something Simple.
It's simple.
