Drop Your Phone!! But after reading this though...

[5min read]

Is your phone the first thing you pick up in the morning? And also the last thing you use at the night ? Do you always have your phone with you? And do you feel empty/bored without it? Are you checking the DM during a BM?

Are you on Facebook when "U suppose de face book"? (Ok that was just terrible) anyways, if yes, oh boy! You are addicted to your phone and it's time to  cut it, cut it (woah), cut  it (yeah).
How many times do you check your phone a day? 3-5? 2-6? If any of these, then - you either have good self control and can hesitate using your phone, or you're a big fat pants-on-fire liar. Most young adults, (18-24) spend most of their time in a day with their head locked up in their phones.

That's.... let's see.. 1, 2, 3, 4 ... too much damn time!

Now according to research, the average young adult spends over 4 hours 50 minutes a day, on their phones. So let's use this study; but let's approximate to 4 hours a day, which is  28 hours a week.

Now we have 52 weeks a year, so 52 ×28 = 1,456 hours a year which sums up to 60 days and some hours. And it only takes 3 days for a spacecraft to get to the moon, and 3 days to get back to earth , so 60 days spent on the phone divided by 6 (days that it takes to go to the moon and back) equals 10. This means that with the time an average young adult spends on their phone a year, they could probably go to the moon and be back 10 times. According to CNN research, teens under 18 spend 9 hours a day on their phones. So 9 hours a day makes 63 hours a week. 3,276 hours a year equalling 136 days which means they could probably go to the moon and back 22 times. Wow!

Just look at all you could be doing!!

Now I want you to guess how many times you pick up your phone a day and write it down somewhere, then tomorrow from when you wake up count and tick how many times you pick up your phone, or stare at the screen waiting for a message, don't hesitate to pick it up when you're tempted to, (it's for your research remember).

At the end of the day, compare your original guess against how many times you actually picked up your phone. Many people will find out they probably guessed too low a number, after undergoing this exercise. See the thing is, using our smartphones has become habitual automatic behaviour - in other words, an involuntary or reflex action. This basically means we are not particularly too conscious about when we pick up our phones, we just do it out of habit. A great majority of people are addicted to their phones, and have no idea.

So here's what you're gonna do if you're one of them. You're going to uninstall all social media and games on your phone for at least two weeks. Please make sure you have all your data (information) backed up, passwords and data. (Kb, Mb, Gb, Tb whatever) why? To come back and visit therealjamike.blogspot.com daily. If that's a little extreme, try timing yourself on how long you use your phone. You can say 2 hours a day for young adults and 3 hours for teens. Make sure you spend at least 10 - 20 mins here on the blog reading articles good for your soul, or you could try the reward system.

Make a list of things you want to do, but never had the time for - then, every time you complete at least two things on the list, reward yourself with some good ol' phone time.

This has a lot of benefits, as it could unlock your creativity or hidden talents, and take old ones to new dimensions. You could even develop new hobbies, as well as your own self. Yes, yes.... I know you enjoyed this article. You're welcome.
