Oh! Dear Pain - episode 4

She was in the bathroom so Chris brought the phone to her and with a stern look on his face,
he said "Answer it".

She didn't understand his "visage" but she checked the Caller ID and it was Wilson her course mate.
She touched the answer button and was about to place it on her ear when Chris took the phone from her and put it on speaker.

"Hi fine girl, so you left the conference hall without notifying me, it's not fair o"

She was in a hurry after the meeting, she had forgotten to let him know.

"Sorry dear, I was headed somewhere important. We'll see in school then, when are you leaving Abuja?"

"Tomorrow, this city is expensive jare" he laughed.

"I agree with you, it is. Have a safe trip and take care" she said.

"Alright dear, you too." the call ended.

She looked at Chris and his blazing eyes, she was at loss.

"What's the problem love?"  she asked.

"Who the hell is that person? And why would he call you a 'fine girl'?" He fumed.

This was getting serious, she hadn't quite processed what was going on.

" He's my friend and course mate Wilson, you basically followed the conversation. There's nothing" she explained.

"Oh there's something alright. I know you're fine, I don't need someone else saying that to you." He sneered.

He was furious, why wasn't she seeing the problem here? They want what belongs to him, definitely not under his watch.

Phoebe was in shock, she had no idea he was this possessive. Dear heavens!

"Please Chris, I'm sorry for everything, can we move past this. It was a sincere call and nothing more" She pleaded.

"A sincere call that bagged loads of compliments and hidden intentions, I don't like this and will not tolerate any of it and moreover it's 8:30 pm. Who calls a girl by this time? Who does that? And you tell me it's sincere?"

He kept running his fingers through his hair in frustration. His eyes lit up like he had remembered something.
"Hold on a second, did you just call me by name. Oh! Sweet Wilson calls and Bam! , you've suddenly remembered my name. Duchess I can't recall the last time you called me 'Chris'. You see the problem here, don't you?"

Phoebe couldn't help herself anymore, tears flowed. She wasn't used to this type of drama, she kept opening her mouth to say something but nothing came out.

"Don't start with the waterworks, I'm only making a point and they should know you're taken. Cut down on these meaningless calls and let them know you can't take calls late at night. It's that simple" he said and stormed off.

She couldn't believe he just said "taken". How? When? They just started dating and he's already marked territories!

She dragged her feet to the bathroom and had a bath, changed into her nighties and laid down. She couldn't find Chris in the house and she didn't call.
She was hoping to fall asleep before he gets back but no, he strutted into the house with a bag and gave it to her.

"Duchess, how are you? Got you something, open the bag" he smiled at her.

She was trying to understand this multiple personalities and the thin lines between them or how he always expects everything to return to normal.
He got her a shawarma roll and a can of Yoghurt, her favorite but she was too angry and confused to care right now.
She thanked him and kept it in the fridge.

"Sorry about earlier babe, I was only scared but we're okay now, aren't we?" He looked scared even as he spoke.

"It's alright, we're good" She knew better not to say otherwise, he would go all commando again.

After few sloppy kisses that she wasn't into, she said good night and slept off.

She woke up the next day with a banging ache on her head, she must had be coming down with something.

Chris held her so tight at night, she thought she would choke in her sleep. Sprawled beside her with His hands wrapped around her body, he was snoring lightly, she nudged him away and got out of bed.

Thank heavens, she was leaving for school tomorrow. One more day to deal with Chris and his shenanigans, hopefully no drama today, she wouldn't provide the stage either.
She decided to make breakfast, she found eggs, a butter can, bread, and an oat meal pack. In no time, she was done, scrambled eggs with bread toasts and oat meal soup but Chris wasn't awake yet.

"Hey honey" she tapped him lightly.

"breakfast is served".

He stared at her a while with sleepy eyes and laid back

"Get up babe, the food's getting cold" she tapped him again

"What is wrong with you? He yelled furiously,

"It's obvious I'm still sleeping yet you keep dragging the wake up song, leave me the frack alone".

In nano seconds Phoebe had gone numb. What just happened? Did she say something wrong? It was just breakfast on a Saturday, at 10:15 am? Typical Phoebe, her feelings got hurt easily and she was always quick to burst into tears.
She got up and went into the kitchen, packed his food in a warmer and tried to eat hers but she couldn't. Her chest was heavy and she kept blaming herself for everything. She heard him move in the house, she was too scared to see him.

Soon he was behind her, running his hands through her neck, he kissed her ears and face
"I'm sorry I shouted at you babe, had a hectic day yesterday and with all that's happened, I needed to rest properly". He said and kept apologising, saying sorry over and over. Phoebe hoped the day would end so she can bolt, she was going to break up with him over the phone as soon as she gets back to school. She wouldn't say it to his face, He could hurt her. So she accepted his apology and smiled the best she could. She tried to go through that day with extra care and less conversations. Whatever he said was right, she nodded and agreed with everything.

The next morning, Chris dropped her off at the park and she left with the early bus.
Throughout the journey, she kept rehearsing the exact words to say to him over the phone.
