It's amazing how far we've come. From a world where we thought too little of ourselves, to a world where we think far too much.
We have bothered ourselves so much of; how much we deserve, how awesome we are, or how little nonsense we can take, that we have now forgotten that others are deserving too. Others are awesome too. Others don't need a little or a lot of any nonsense either.
Self-respect and self-love has too often mutated into pride, prejudice and intolerance for differences. We became the centers, and also the boundaries of our own universes. We have taught ourselves that there is only one spot at the top of the pyramid, and that spot is ours alone.
We need to step back for a moment. Clear our black-rose colored glasses and see that life is more than the pretty strings of our own singular successes.
Black lives matter. White lives matter. Poor lives matter. Struggling lives matter. OTHER lives matter.The most important thing isn't the next P-square or Nicki Minaj song being released. It's the life of the person right next to us. Have we supported them? Helped them? Encouraged them?
Have we made a difference that is not solely just to raise ourselves higher? When was the last time you encouraged someone for a talent? Or gave kudos for the hard work they've put into something? Or said thank you for the little things they've done.
When was the last time you were the friend they need, instead of the friend "in need"? Yes... you matter. But others do too.
