MARVEL GAINED AFRICAN PUBLICITY IN THEIR UPCOMING MOVIE “THE AVENGERS”

Nollywood star Funke Akindele popularly known as Jenifa was falsefully starred as one of the Dora Mileje’s guards in the Avenger movie. Akindele’s name was published on a website, IMDB, the movie database website owned by Amazon.

                             

The film is an American superhero film based on marvel comics superhero team “The Avengers”. It is the most anticipated movie in 2018 according to IMDB. The 1st trailer for the movie became the most-viewed trailer debut ever, with over 230 million views in its first 24 hours.

 The Dora Milaje are fictional characters, they are a team of women who serve as Special Forces for the fictional African nation of Wakanda

It was strange how Funke Akindele didn’t make any announcement about being starred in the movie; even as the whole world celebrated her for being part of 2018 most anticipated movie. Well, it is because an anonymous hacker inserted her name on the cast of the movie to give her mere publicity.  Sources close to Funke revealed that the actress was not aware of the role given to her; she was as surprised as we all are. 

On Saturday, January 13, 2017, her name was erased from the cast. Many Nigerians were petrified while some jealous ones were happy. Here are some of the reactions gotten from Twitter and Instagram.

Controversial media personality, Daddy Freeze expressed his disappointment about the removal of Funke Akindele’s name in the upcoming avenger’s movie. He said,

"If only Marvel studios knew what the hacker had done for them, they would have found him paid him and quickly contacted @funkejenifaakindele, found a role for her, shot her along with the cast and with the publicity and sales in Africa alone, possibly doubled their income.

”I was heartbroken when I saw that she was taken off the list.”.

It is sad that it wasn't real. when I heard the news at first, I was so excited that our own Nigerian star is going international. After 2 days, the bombshell dropped and it was announced that a hacker inserted Funke's name as part of the Dora Milaje. 

I wasn't planning on watching the upcoming Avengers movie but after all the noise on Instagram and twitter, I guess I will it check out.
