THE YOUNG AND FEARLESS AT THE IYLS

Be young and fearless

Inspire Young Leader Summit (IYLS), is an initiative that aims at building future leaders from the youth in our society. IYLS was a 3 days event, and it started on Thursday February 22th 2018, and ended  on Saturday February 24th, 2018.

Day 1: Thursday 22nd, 2018: Food Festival
The first day of IYLS summit clashed with the ABUAD cultural day. There were cultural activities such as the Masquerade dance, Sango (The Yoruba God of Thunder) performance and some fun games. Olusola Amusan (CIO Microsoft Nigeria) gave a very motivational and captivating speech. It was a very fun and memorable night.

Day 2: Friday 23rd, 2018
The second day started early, some renowned speakers spoke about the challenges they had in life, and fun games were played. Day 2 ended with the SRC magazine launch which was an award night. Day 2 was an educational day, I learned a lot about building my resume and using any opportunity as they come my way just as the old proverb says: opportunity comes but once.

Day 3: Saturday 24th, 2018
More motivational speakers spoke. The crowd was expecting Richard Mofe Damijo to show, but due to some logistical reasons, he didn't make it.

Some of renowned speakers who spoke were:
1.
1. Olusola Amusan
Mr. Olusola Amusan is a 27-year-old Philanthropist from Osun state. He has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA).  He creates and implements development strategies for the corporate social responsibility programmes of Microsoft in Nigeria. At such a young age, Mr. Amusan has achieved a lot. At the summit, he advised students to take advantage of their youth age to achieve greatness.

2.    Osundare Damilare:

Mr. Osundare Damilare also known as Asiri comedy is an inspirational comedian who graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife (OAU), where he studied Microbiology. Mr Damilare gave an entertaining lecture with visuals on how we should be the driver of our life: on how we should stop waiting for others to save us, rather be our self's savior.

3. Ogunrotimi Omowumi

Ms. Omowumi Ogunrotimi is a Legal Practitioner and Social Development Activist. She has been actively engaged in various initiatives with a strong emphasis on gender and young people’s Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Ms. Ogurotimi gave a very emotional story about her best friend who was raped, got pregnant and died later on. She passionately talked about how upholding women isn't our culture, but we can make it ours because culture doesn't make people, rather, people make culture. Ms. Ogunrotimi also gave an helpline that provides service to domestically violated people. The helpline is: 07000000002

IYLS 2018 focused on the issues and problems with the youth of today, the speakers gave suggestions on how we can conduct our lives in order to have a sound tomorrow. The topics covered by the summit were centered on  hope, courage, forward-thinking and more. The summit was very informative, motivational and life-changing. I am already looking forward to attending the summit next year.
