FORBIDDEN LOVE
By Amanda Benson
Dreams come true, but so do nightmares.
Bearing the burden of a perfect memory,
Once again she is confronted by her past and her fears.
She could have vowed it wouldn't be possible,
Not in a million years,
For the man whose seed she was formed with,
Broke her maidenhead and left her in tears.
She remembers the first time it happened.
To her little self it never felt right,
Fondling and lewd declarations of love
And there was no mother to respond to her plight.
Her mother passed on at her birth,
Then she was looked upon as a reincarnation of his love,
Her hollow teenage eyes projected dejection,
Her beautiful but sad features beckoned like a mourning dove.
She grew older, but time changed nothing.
His shadow was her enemy, for she dreaded his presence
Deep within, she felt her poor soul rotting.
She thought her life wasn't worth any essence,
He struggled with her as she held a knife to her wrist,
It happened so fast as he slumped,
The knife went through his heart with a sharp twist.
The wind whips her hair forward, she falls back to the present.
Tears of shame and regret fill her eyes again,
As she stares at the grave of the father she loved and resented.
She habours a cacophany of intense but different emotions
There is guilt but relief, loss but hate, hope but despair, sorrow and pain
She wills her legs to carry her out of the graveyard,
Without looking back she vows never to return again.
