Oh! Dear Pain 3

[4 Minutes Read]

Chris spotted a table close to the food counter where he could get a better view of Mona Lisa.

Soon she came to take their orders, he barely heard what she asked. Philip kicked his foot under the table, bringing him back from oblivion.

He flashed his teeth at her as her cheeks turned pink, no doubt he had something on her.

"What would you like Sir"?

She was directing her question to Philip, ignoring Chris who regardless kept smiling.
She could ignore him all she wanted but he knew she was into him too.

"I would have jollof rice with grilled fish please and a can of exotic blend"

"Okay and you Sir?"

"Oh! .... me"  Chris stuttered.

"Plantain porridge and roasted fish will do, a bottle of water please".

Swiftly, she walked away giving Chris a perfect "delatour" of her behind which was curvaceous.

Damn!

She returned with their plates, one at a time, carefully setting them down. He admired her grace and gentle aura. Soon she was out of their way as they ate their meal, with Chris stealing glances at every opportunity he got, he wasn't going to waste it.

Before long, they were done. He needed to have the "talk" with her, he barely had few hours left in the state.
He walked up to the counter and pleaded her to step outside for a minute. He waited outside for her, and she did come. He was smiling

"It's no secret that I like you, I can't help myself Phoebe. I'll be going back to Abuja tomorrow, be kind enough to give your number please?"

He had no intentions of leaving there without her digits. She was apparently struggling with self control, it was all over her face.

Phoebe liked him too, but he was coming on too strong and it scared her. Well, he was leaving her territory so it wouldn't hurt to just give in.
Chris was really happy, he felt so fulfilled like he had won a Nobel prize. He promised to call as soon as he gets to Abuja.
**********************************************
Phoebe was having a headache from crying too much, she went to the sink and rinsed her face. She was really tired of this emotional melt down every now and then, she ached for stability.
She turned on her phone, while booting, Chris called her but she didn't pick up. He kept calling and she ignored his calls. Soon her best friend Cindy called her. Without doubt, she knew Chris had reached out to her. He does that a lot, she picked up

"Dearie how are you? Been trying to reach you, are you okay? What's wrong?" Cindy piped.

She was a talking drum who could go on and on and never run out of breath.

"Meanwhile Chris called and said something about you hanging up on him, trust me Phoebe, you don't want to lose that guy. I would give anything to have what you're taking for granted right now. Hello babe, are you there?"

This was the case, her friends always thought her Lucky to be with Chris, the good and doting boyfriend without zero faults. She was tired of explaining or complaining to them, they never understood.

"I'm alright dear, it's just a minor misunderstanding. Will call him back later" she said, holding back her tears.
This was too painful

"Did you just say minor? I don't think so, he was raging when he called. You really know how to get the man riled up, you need to calm down. You had better call him back, while you're forming angry, Abuja ladies are scheming to lay their paws on him" Cindy went on.

And of course, she was blamed for treating the "poor" man very badly.

Life is indeed a hot pot of iron beans, if only they knew.
She promised Cindy she will fix things and then she dropped the call.
She was sure her B.P had increased by 10% from all these incessant calls.

She had to break up with Chris, she couldn't continue like this. The yelling, insecurities, over possessive streak like she was some trophy, the reverse psychology scope he comes up with whenever he was at fault, the tears he sheds after raining abuses on her.
She was done with all of that, but she needed to say it to his face.

How would she even get him to understand that this isn't working anymore? How did she get here? She had become this angry, bitter and moody person, always arguing over the phone like MTN customers do.

Before Chris, she was really sane. What made her say yes to this relationship in the first place? Holy Jesus!

In the beginning, he wasn't all bad. He was really loving, caring and seemed so perfect. He called virtually every second to check up on her, text messages were flying around. He would light up her mornings with poetic missiles.
Phoebe didn't know he had anger issues till she went to Abuja for a students conference that lasted for 1 week.

Christ kept asking her to come see his place, she finally agreed and at the end of the conference, he was already at Dunes waiting for her. She decided to spend two days with him before going back to Enugu. All grins and school boy behaviour, Chris hovered around her making sure she was okay.

When they got to his house, it looked like an homecoming event. He had cooked and decorated the house, Qué bueno suerte!
She was too shy to eat anything, beaming with smiles, she thanked him. She had eaten at the mall in the morning before Chris picked her up so she was filled. He insisted they go out to have dessert, she agreed and changed into something more comfortable. It was all fun and giddy till they returned in the evening when she was about to have a bath and her phone rang.
