The 'ER' Mentality
By Ebi Ashidi
We have a very short time left in 2016, so we've also made this a very short read. So don’t say you’ll read later, do it NOW.
It’s almost 2017 - and it’s only natural that we'd look back at the past year and pull out a few lessons from it; understand the places where we fell, why we fell and how we can avoid similar occurrences.
It’s also natural that we'd take into consideration our victories, the breathtaking bliss of that feeling of victory, and to plan out how we can multiply such victories in the coming year.

When burnt with a Lagos tire
BECAUSE OF THE BOY THEY BURNT IN LAGOS
By Someone.
***Saving Mama***
Today, Mama's health condition worsened drastically, and the doctor threatened, despite my tears, to abandon mama and let her die if i don't find a way to fetch her food. You see, the treatment wouldn't work, because she hadn't eaten for days. There is no food at home, no money either. Sometimes, she falls when she stands, and cries like a baby, when the doctor's injections come rushing down her veins. It's painful!

How NiMSA broke my heart
I remember when we first started going, we left our 5-star Hostels in Ido, to leave for an adventure.
Do you see why we chose to school here? |
It wasn't easy to leave, as the consultants would like you to learn for 26 hours, 9 days a week.

Nature's Treasures
Have you ever had a day, where everywhere you looked there were treasures shining bright...?
No, I'm not talking about piles of gold or fistfuls of diamonds... I speak of star studded nights, ruby dawns, and sapphire afternoons. I speak of Nature's Treasures...
When you take a walk in the morning, you're greeted by emerald trees...

The New Normal
Do the killings, and bombings, sound normal? Are they becoming less strange and more ‘usual’? Will you say you have gotten used to the bad news?
You know, I wonder sometimes if bad news is still tagged ‘bad news’ or if it's now one of those things.

Triolet 5: God is King
Triolet 5: God is King
God is King over Israel,
Ruling with justice and mercy;
The people boast, ‘Immanuel,
God is King over Israel…’
In Zion always will He dwell,
Guarding His people jealously—
God is king over Israel,
Ruling with justice and mercy.

My Heart Has A Fever
My Heart Has A Fever
By The Anonymous Me
My heart has a fever. And it seems you're
the infection. You've infected my mind and now there's a toxin addiction
Emotionopathy - Grade 3; a traumatic
emergency. See..... I'm trying to be free of you; but there's new
complications.
I've got my heart inflammed and my love set
on fire. There's a whole new classification and it's named after you.

I'm not certain, that a curse hasn't been placed over me.
I know of this because I feel no weight on my shoulders.

Does Nigeria exist?
By Viola Okpara
Does Nigeria exist?
The question appears weird - I know....
very much like a question of one in an alcohol induced stupor. But are there
people, who are, in fact through-and-through, purely and completely, simply
"Nigerians"?
Aren't the yoruba more yoruba or the Hausa
more Hausa or the Efik more Efik or Igbo more Igbo than being 'Nigerians'?

Triolet 2 - Dear Child
Triolet 2 - Dear
Child
Refrain, dear child, from ways perverse –
Reverse, recoil, retreat, recede;
With wrong doers, do not converse.
Refrain, dear child, from ways perverse:
To you, let them become averse...
Unless on shame you wish to feed,
Refrain, dear child, from ways perverse –
Reverse, recoil, retreat, recede.

When You Need Me
"Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." - Maya Angelou
You probably already know how it feels when you think someone is using you.
We've all got that person, who doesn't
remember us till they need that one favour only we can help with... and even
then, it feels they might only be contacting us because they couldn't find
anyone else. Sometimes you end up feeling like the last resort.
....
Hurts, doesn't it?

My Love Story
By Patsy
He was my childhood friend. I can't remember
how exactly we met, but he was always around. They always talked about him and pushed
me towards him and made sure he followed me everywhere. It caught on. I kinda built
my life around him. I knew what he liked and disliked, and we talked every morning and night before I went to bed. He was mummy's
ideal man for me.
But I grew up.

The Gentle Soul
On Saturday, I lost my grandfather to the ravages and clutches of time.
He was a gentle breath of fresh air, in a foul world progressively riding towards an unrepentant decay. I will miss him. And as I look back, I cannot help but wonder and remember, the things I should have done with him....

The Foolish World
THE
FOOLISH WORLD
By
Chimamkpam Onyenezi
The Igbos have a saying, "Uwa wu otu
mbia"
It means that, in this world, there is just
one life
That is why we must all be cautious of this
life
I also say, that this world is truly
"Ikpu Wigous"
All I'm saying is that we all really have
to focus
After this world we suffer in, there is yet
a better one
But going to the better, depends on how you
lived in this one

Radiation Smadiation
So there's a Solar Eclipse happening by 7am tomorrow morning apparently, and people have already begun - as usual, to distribute bc's with false and deceptive information.
The eclipse happening tomorrow will not be a total one, so you may or may not need shades for it.
However, it is indeed false information that you should be afraid of radiation coming from the sun to debilitate you.

Ha. Igbo Kwenu!!
"ENGLIGBO"
"ENGLIGBO"
I'm not sure how many of you dear readers
are familiar with this popular bridged term. I first heard it in
secondary school from a teacher, reprimanding my "generation" for
watering down the purity of the igbo language with blobs of English words bubbling
around between our igbo sentences.

Speak. Out.
"Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes" - Maggie Khun
There are times in life that silence does
not get you the answer you would like it to. Silence is a cold storm of memory
and thoughts that can chill you to the bone, and sometimes you’re lucky enough
that people feel the cold and know there's something very wrong.
Sometimes, however, silence and chill just
are not enough.
Sometimes you need fire.

The Jamb Experience
With rumours of plans by the Federal Government to scrap the post-utme exams. I decided before they magically wake up someday and decide to remove JAMB, It would be good that I let the future know what we.... "enjoyed" in JAMB
It begins by you hearing that your seniors usually get like 230, 250 etc out of 400..... You laughed in

The Good Fight
"Sometimes you have to be strong for yourself... Always fight, until you can’t anymore, and then be fought for."
Recently I was pushed by someone to get off
my butt and go about to do good work again. It's why you've been seeing articles regularly on the blog again (**Hides Face**)
I had been trying to live a simple life.
Just me, myself and I. No worries, no troubles, no stress. It didn't last long.
It's not the person I am, I guess. It seems I'm more like peppered fire than a
calm scented breeze.

The Future
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?”
- Marianne Williamson, Return to Love
Countless years have since past as we've
heard it chorused; In the classrooms, In the streets, In the churches -
"Children are the future", "The youth are the leaders of
tomorrow".
But.... the youth have now gotten old. Some
got so old that their time came and they have even passed away. Yet the same
people who have lead and governed for 30 - 50 years are still leading and
governing today. With the trend we're on, it seems we go further and further in
the past to drudge up leaders from regiments and councils of old to take the
reigns of power.
Are we so incapable, we "youth",
of taking control of our own lives? Our present? Our very futures? Will we
stamp down our heritage? Have we young lions forgotten how to roar? Meant to be
eagles, but unable to soar.

Being Pete Edochie
“A word to the wise ain't necessary, it's the stupid ones who need advice.”
― Bill Cosby
Have you ever heard Pete Edochie's voice? The rich baritone and emphatic demeanor he has while saying his lines is so amazing that it's like a trademark. The USA has Morgan Freeman but we have Pete Edochie.
We've collected a few lines submitted in social media to give you a feel of the Pete Edochie Experience. Read them all in his voice. Who knew wisdom could be so hilarious...
No matter how much you massage the banana, it will never become plantain.
A man that goes up a tree to see if the mango is ripe, and comes back down to throw stones at it to pluck it, is destined for failure.
No matter how kind a man is; he will never give his wife as a gift to his friends.

How We Killed The World.... 2
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
#We steal from our parents - and even others - then we go and
blame God for allowing thieves and armed robbers to plague our cities and roads.
#We cheat on exams and cause problems in
the real world because we are unable to apply knowledge that we do not have - then we go and blame God for not preventing unproductivity and the fall of the economy.
#We cheat on our partners and spouses - then we go and blame God for not killing all the sinners so that we would have peace.
#We kill people with insults - slowly and
steadily.... demeaning their spirits and torturing their minds - then we go and blame God for letting suffering exist in the world.
How We Killed The World....
"If you could ask God one
question.....what would it be?"
That's the post I saw in Nairaland one day.
It's not a new question. Many people have asked the same question before. And
many more people still will.
"Why did you create hell?"

I, Difference
“The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers, but above all - the world needs dreamers who do.” | Sarah Breathnach
I've been witness to a lot of controversial events that have happened around me in the last month or so.
I've been witness to a lot of controversial events that have happened around me in the last month or so.
Granted, not as controversial as a lot of
major things in the world might actually be, such as the killing of numerous
Paris citizens by terrorists, rising of the Naira-Dollar rate to N400, or the kidnapping of a 14 year old girl from her home and family to be converted to a different religion, forcibly married and having her age falsified.
But simply the less grandiose controversies
that get lost in day to day life... in the hustle and bustle of todays' modern
digital and, increasingly, reality detached age. Things that bother a lot of
us, most everyday. Things that need to change. Things that, if left unchecked, only grow bigger and bigger, eventually becoming - or lending a hand - to the
grandiose controversies we see today.
The world we live in, today, is both better and
worse than yesterdays world.

Picture Memories
I'm an extreme photographer :P . I've been known to take quite a few pictures at everywhere i go and anything I do. I take pictures of interesting things, people, sights or events. Anything I'd want to remember or talk about with someone someday.
They say 'a picture is worth a thousand words', and maybe it's true.
You can tell a lot about a person from their pictures. Even a single one.
