Catch them young

Naturally, I'm a person with much affection and respect for little children. But then, I still hate it when I see them misbehaving. Yes, it's actually true that they're young - with little or no common sense, but that's where their beauty lies. It's so unfortunate that most parents overlook this stage in their wards' lives. They find it difficult to correct or discipline them when they do something wrong.

The point is, this is the time you're supposed to impact whatsoever values they need, into them. Children tend to be extremely fast and smart during this stage of their lives, and they pick up whatever little thing they come across instantly - good or bad. So as a parent, if you fail to do your quota, someone else will do it in your place and it might be to the detriment of your child's mindset.

It amuses me when I see parents calling their children 'stubborn' or 'spoilt'. And some go the extra mile of blaming their carelessness on genes. Look, character is not transmitted through genes or whatever absurd beliefs you keep. Character is simply something that is embedded into the mind. When a child grows up with a talkative mother, it is only natural that he or she will grow up a talkative.

When a child grows up in a broken home, where daddy beats mommy and mommy throws careless insults at him, it is only natural that such child will grow up to believe irresponsibility is the right thing. I repeat, character is not in any way inherited or transmitted from parents to offspring, rather, the environment shapes the child's mindset. "Children grow with what they live with."

Of what use is procreation when you find it difficult to impact the necessary values into your wards? You'll start training them when they come of age? LOL.  Aunty and Uncle, if you don't do that training now, it might be too late then. If you don't catch them young now, someone else will and it might end up being to the detriment of your health, the society and the child's life.
